Another week has passed and I’m continuing studying “Study Skills” to improve my Basic English. This week I was learning UNIT 3: Tele-working and distance learning, I can get the main idea mostly and I did note-taking effectively according to the recent study; that is what I was told last week. I have really learnt many useful skills on this course such as some macro strategies, how to identify the special markers and the highlight: note-taking.
Well, even though I can understand the listening better than before there still some problems with other skills. This is a strange phenomenon, my hearing really improved but there was no significant change in my speaking or writing, what should I do to improve? Maybe I require a larger vocabulary or should do more exercises where I can write answers rather than choose between Right and Wrong. Besides I had considered watching some classic movies, some of my friends told me that it’s quite useful, the only problem is that really takes time.

I have been doing “Study Skills” for a period of time now; the main focus being the listening aspect. During this study period I have learnt a great deal which gives me confidence in taking more active roles in school activities and the ability to use some of the study tips I’ve learnt. However, I can perfect my level of communication with my foreign teacher – Charles, and I’m finding the homework easier now than it was before. Both of those are my learning outcomes; I was excited about this discovery!

This is the first week in which we will have to Study the Skills course. Prior to this class, I thought that leaning English was a very complicated task and was unsure how to progress, even though I’ve been studying for around eight years! However, through this course, specifically this week I have come to understand that learning English is not only about Grammar, Vocabulary and Pronunciation but it also requires us to acquire other essential skills. In fact, some of my friends have always attainted a very high score for their exams, but they fail to communicate with others effectively because they can’t quite understand the meaning of others if they speak too quickly or use some colloquialisms, Sometimes we can express our thoughts through writing and can also retain information through reading, but in terms of communication it’s not always as expressive as spoken word.
